“Momma, why do they have these short beds in here? Is this just beds for kids?”
“No, Hannah, it’s to save space. There’s a part that pulls out if an adult needs to lay on it.”
“Why is there paper on it and why do they have a paper pillow?”
“The paper is to help protect you against germs from other sick patients.”
“Oh, so how do they know if the sick patient sat on the bed. Do you have to tell them? So the mommas tell them if the sick kids sit on the bed, so they know to change the paper?”
“Well, I think they change the paper anyway, just in case you might have sat on the bed.”
“What about the plastic part of the bed – couldn’t germs get on that part too?”
“Yes Hannah, they have cleaner for that and they would clean that part.”
“Oh. Well, do they have a roll of paper, how do they get that paper on the bed?” (and we have several more minutes of discussion about bed paper! before we move on…..)
“Are these things so the momma can push the babies out?” (eyeing up the foot stirrups – obviously having seen an episode or two of A Baby Story!)
“Well, babies are not actually delivered here, those are for exams; and yes, the doctor does deliver babies, just not here in the office.”
“So did the doctor deliver Lilly?”
“No, there are other doctors that deliver babies besides this doctor.”
“Am I going to get a shot?”
“Quite possibly.”
“Are they going to take my blood?”
“Probably not. ”
“Why do they take people’s blood? To see what color it is and stuff?”
….. and on and on it went.
She did get two immunizations. She didn’t cry at all. She came down this morning, quite serious, and tells me she slept on her shots and she shouldn’t have, they are hurting and she needs to go back to bed! LOL
