I had a close call this week, when I went to upgrade my WordPress install here on the blog; and it started giving me errors. That’s when I learned that the backup I did right before the upgrade – failed. I was sick!
I tried everything, manually upgrading, etc… and thought I had lost everything on this blog. I have had this domain since September 20, 1999!! That’s a whole lotta info!
However, while attempting to re-set everything up again with a fresh install, I realized that some of the database was still there, and thankfully – I had setup and scheduled Backup Buddy to run on this site. And while many of the most recent backups showed as failed, there was one in early December that was good. I grabbed it and managed to get back all of my content within minutes!!
Woohoo!
So let this be a lesson to you: schedule regular backups for your site, both full and database only backups.
I now have daily database backups scheduled and weekly full site backups scheduled and they are all going directly into my Amazon S3 account. So it’s safe in a third party site location.
