Spring Cleaning Progress!

I’ve been working on my modified spring cleaning this week, in preparation for the Easter family event here this weekend.  I’m making progress and going room-by-room and really digging in and getting some deeper cleaning done.  Not a full and true spring cleaning, but doing things that I want to do (thus why it’s modified ;) )

I’ve gotten all the children’s rooms done, the dining room, my office and organized some cabinets and drawers in the kitchen as well.  My sweet hubby also organized the hall coat closet and cleaned out the coffee table baskets and the drawer in the living room end table.   Tomorrow we intend to work on the basement together to straighten that and then shampoo the carpet.

Speaking of my dining room, here’s my new dining room rug! I really warms up that room.  Can youdining room rug believe I found this at Walmart?!  So affordable too and it looks like it was made just for my dining room from the print to the colors.  I love it!  :)

slipcoversThe new slipcovers for the living room arrived today!  Squee!  Just in time.  The sofa and chair were looking pitiful and could no longer be cleaned to my satisfaction.  Slipcovers were definitely needed.  Eventually, I plan to buy leather furniture, but for now, slipcovers it is.

I’m praying I can get everything done I need to.  I still need to do the basement, kitchen, all three bathrooms, the living room, my bedroom, bathe all four dogs, straighten my grooming room, grocery shop and then cook some of the food on Saturday.  The event starts Sunday morning at 11:00 am.  I only have so much energy each day and some of this if I did it too soon, would get un-done by Sunday.  So I’m trying to work on things that won’t get un-done before then.   Pray for me!

Spring Cleaning: in Green

It’s getting to be that time of year, when we think about spring cleaning on the T2CHK board.  Sylvia usually spear-heads this event each year.  I admit, I usually never follow her schedule, as I ‘march to the beat of a different drummer’ if you will and because of my scheduling issues, and my own way of doing things, I adhere to my own spring cleaning schedule – but if you want something in very organized, detailed and in writing, please visit either the T2CHK web site, or join the board and join us for the Spring Clean ’08 event.

This year’s event is going to be a bit different than in the past:  they’re using ‘green cleaners’, meaning, environmentally friendly cleaners with the emphasis on homemade green cleaners (yes, recipes will be posted).  However, if you’re like me and time is not something in abundance for you, you might want to check out the new line of  green cleaners at Walmart called Green Works.  Believe it or not, this line is produced by Clorox, but is reported to be at least 99% natural ingredients (like coconut and lemon oils).    I plan to get some when I go shopping this week and give them a try.

All that said:  these next two weeks I will be doing my own version of a modified spring clean here at The Cottage.  I have a family event being held here on Palm Sunday.  I have some organizing and deep cleaning that I need to do between now and then.  I won’t necessarily be removing all the curtains in every room and doing all of that, but concentrating on key areas that are bugging me and that I know need attention, polishing things and shampooing carpets.   Thus the ‘modified’ part of all that.  ;)

If your house needs a good spring cleaning, then why don’t you join us on the message board, or at least stop by the T2CHK web site to follow along.  :)
