The other day, somone posted the below video on Facebook. Basically, it was a father, who discovered something his daughter wrote on her Facebook wall, basically complaining about the chores she has to do and bad mouthing her parents.

First a warning, there is bad language used in this video, as he reads what his daughter posted on her Facebook wall.

Second, this is an example of a poor response as a parent. Humiliating your child publicly – putting it on YouTube! and basically acting as immature as she did – is never a right thing to do. While as parents, we can understand why he was upset. Some of us can relate; but it’s never okay to respond to your child in this manner. Ever.

The issue I can see, just from this limited exposure of this situation, is there’s a communication and power struggle going on. A family meeting to discuss this, the parents listening to their daughter, respecting her view and communicating in a respectable manner all around will get far more accomplished than this drama show.

From what I got out of the video, the parents were not requesting anything I do not request of my own children: they are to make their own beds, and have chores they are to do around the house. It’s the way in which the whole thing is handled and communicated that is the key difference. I don’t treat my children as my personal servants, I treat them like capable human beings who are learning life skills and how to be part of the family. I truly do appreciate the help they give me and how they are part of the family unit.

Watch the video and share your comments below. Do you think this dad was right to publicly call out his daughter this way? How would you handle this situation?

Yesterday Josie Duggar, the 19th child of Jim Bob & Michelle Duggar, finally got to come home from the hospital. Josie was born December 10, 2009 at only 25 weeks gestation due to Michelle’s pre-eclampsia. Weighing only 1 pound 6 ounces, she was what is a called a micro-preemie.

Today Josie weighs in at 4 pounds 9 ounces and is doing very well! She ‘s breathing on her own, eating regularly and is stable.

Our family are huge fans of the Duggars, we watch their show 19 Kids and Counting every week on TLC. They are kind, generous and all around good role models for any size family.

I am very happy for the Duggar family and the full family reunion!

Visit the Duggar family web site.
