Signs of Modesty

Remember that guy from the American Idol auditions who sang “Pants on the Ground“? While his performance did not garner him a golden ticket to Hollywood, he certainly made an excellent point.

Common sense isn’t so common, and apparently less so when discussing issues of modesty. This trend toward immodest clothing has been slowly working it’s way into our society for that past 50 years, at least.

I have nothing against fashion and style; but when fashion and style mean showing all that the good Lord gave ya – it’s time to say no.

Today a tweet came through my Twitter account with a link to view a modest dress, the site itself also discussed modesty. Refreshing to know I’m not the only one who believes in the virtue of dressing modestly. (check out http://www.colleenhammond.com ) When I visited Colleen’s Facebook page, I found the above modesty sign.

In reading her Facebook thread on this sign, it appears the sign itself is located outside the entrance to a CHURCH!

The fact that such a sign would need to be posted outside of a church is a great indication of how far away from common sense modesty our society has come – even for those within the church.

Definitions of modesty have so greatly changed, that I guess a sign (with pictures) is absolutely needed.

I want one of these signs! If I can obtain the info on how to get one, I’ll post it here for you.

In the meantime….

Here’s Colleen’s great list of modest clothing resources. My own list of modesty clothing resources is found to the right, in the sidebar.

What is your definition of modesty?

As a Christian woman, this cracks me up a bit. So let me get this straight. . . this church (and obviously you) would rather have a person not come in to worship God if their knees or shoulders are showing? This is judged too inappropriate to come into God’s presence – so that person is left outside?? I’m thankful that Jesus didn’t see it that way. He welcomed all (prostitutes, tax collectors, lepers etc etc) into His presence and still does. First of all – remember – judge not less you be judged. Also – just because the sins you have don’t show on your clothing doesn’t make you any more worthy to worship the one true God. Modesty will come with the wisdom of God. But this can’t be learned from out on the sidewalk. Thanks for inviting me to speak my mind.
