In July 2004 I had laproscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Surgery (RNY), aka: weight loss surgery. At the time of my surgery, I had type II diabetes, uncontrolled high blood pressure, GERD and many aches and pains associated with being morbidly obese. All of that is gone, thanks to my losing 100 pounds through the tool of weight loss surgery. I have successfully kept my weight off for over 3 years now.

I realize that the type of surgery that I had is not for everyone. The malabsorption issues that I have, make it not the ideal surgery for every person. However, there is another option for those concerned about RNY issues: it’s called LapBand. In the hands of a skilled lap band surgeon you can achieve weight loss success using a weight loss tool like I did - just a different tool.

LapBand is a restrictive surgery, meaning it uses a band around the stomach (like a wrist watch) to create a new smaller stomach pouch to restrict how much food you can consume, and makes you feel full faster and longer, and you thus lose weight.

Don’t go another year making the same New Year’s resolution and not achieving it. Check to see if there is a lap band surgeon near you, and get more information.

I’ve been wondering about you and how your weight loss surgery has been for you in “hindsight”. Glad to hear of your success. I have a friend that had lap band surgery about 6 months ago. I hear she is doing well, also.
