Today the children and I ran some errands, one of those being a trip to the social security office. Upon our arrival, I struggled to suppress a grin when a Barney Fife looking security officer, completely armed with gun and everything (I kid you not!), jumped up as the children and I entered the door, to direct us over to the clipboard to sign in and to inform us of the security protocol. We are to have no pocket knives, sharp objects or weapons of any kind on our person. “Do we have anything like that?”, he asked. “No sir.”, I replied. I complete the check-in process and sit down.

As soon as we sit down, Emily is looking very nervous and pale and she leans over to me and says, “But momma, daddy has a pocket knife at home!” :D It was all I could do to keep from laughing out loud! Children are so innocent and take things so literally.

Which reminds me of another such story of when my oldest son Tom was about 4 or 5 years old (he’s now 24 years old). We went through a drive-thru restaurant and ordered our food. I was driving and after we got our food and drinks I put my straw in my drink, grabbed it and took a sip. Tom gasped and said quite seriously, “Momma, you’re drinking and driving!!” LOL Ahhhh, those teachable moments. ;)
